Supporting behaviour change in sustainable building

During the past June, 23rd and 24th, a training concerning awareness and supporting behavior change was given by Lara MANG-JOUBERT and Ludovic GICQUEL, from OXALIS.

This 2-day training provides tools to facilitate transmission, awareness and support for changing sustainable building users behavior. Thanks to an accompanying methodology, participants could discover the change mechanism by putting into practice the Human sciences to go to the use practice in buildings.

The changing process is doable by appropriation, by guiding, accompanying and making users wanted to change their behavior.

The second day of the training was dedicated to the application of the theory and the using tools in a concrete way, on real or fictional projects thanks to a project management methodology.

The important elements to keep in mind are:

–          Too many information are given to citizens. We have to target more precisely in accordance with the person to whom we are speaking to.

–          Active listening is the key to success in change supporting. You have to make allowance for emotions, be a good observer and organizes top down/bottom up exchanges

–          You have to pay attention to dissonances like giving responsibilities to users but install centralized software.

–          You have to illustrate your remarks by making a comparison with a concrete unity like: 1T CO2 emitted = x km traveled.

All this elements should be highlighted when elaborating a strategy to involve buildings users in the energy efficiency of the building
